When I decided to write "The Engineering of Foundations", I
wanted it to be a book that would be current, that would contain
most of what both students and practicing engineers would need,
that would provide a strong conceptual basis for analyses and
design, that would contain detailed examples illustrating the use
of these analyses and design methods, and that would minimize
the confusion with notation that is common in geotechnical
engineering. These are the underlying principles of this book. I
hope that you find it useful. But I hope also that you enjoy
reading and studying it and I would like to hear of your experience
with it.
